New Year, New Me? – 5 Ways to Make Sure You Start the Year Off Right

Is it too late to say Happy New Year?? If not then Happy New Year to you! First post of the year and I promise it will be one of many – setting myself a target to keep going on this blog and posting more regularly.

Last year was super busy for me – balancing my job with the new house and the major change in my routine, it was the best new change but it was hard to find time to even plan out content let alone create. I’m finally getting used to this and I’ve got a lot of plans for new content so stay tuned!

The new year brings the feeling that it’s time to get organised, put my thoughts and dreams into action and work on getting things done. Here’s 5 ideas to make sure that you start the year off right

Set Goals and Make a Realistic Plan

I always find it best to physically write out my goals in my notebook, it feels like I’m letting it them out of my thoughts and writing them into action. With setting your goals make sure you pair it with a realistic plan – how you can reach this goal, what actions you need to take and how long you expect it to take. Along with your yearly goals make a plan for your financials, a goal for what you want in your savings and a monthly budget to be able to stick to these goals.

Reconnect and Refresh your Connections

Do you have people in your life that you’ve not connected with a while – reach out and make plans! It’s easy to just get caught up in the routine of work and home, take time out to have fun with your loved ones. I know I’ve been in this cycle in the last few months and it is hard to make your schedule work to meet up with people but make sure that you make the effort – people will appreciate the effect you put in. If you have people in your life that should not be in your life anymore, it’s time to refresh and let that relationship go.

Try Something New and Start a New Habit

There is a popular myth that if you do something for 21 days it becomes a habit, according to studies it actually takes an average of 66 days for a behaviour to become automatic. Try with something small and take it slow by starting with the 21 days rule and see how it can be easily the behaviour can fit into your routine. For me I want to read more, I already love to read but I want to include it in my daily routine and drinking more water!

Reorganise and Reevaluate

Start the spring clean early, go through your living and work spaces and clear out all the things that are no longer of purpose to you, reevaluate the things that you need and what you don’t. This way you have room for new things (useful things!) and allow yourself to change up your space and add something fresh and of value. With some little changes you can change your perspective and see your space in a new light.

Take a Step Back and Appreciate

It’s all well and good working hard to get to your goals but remember that the journey can be just as good as the destination. Don’t wait for the final stop for you to find happiness – enjoy the process and appreciate your progressions and the people around you that have helped make it happen.

Let’s start this year as we mean to go on, have a wonderful year!

Thank you for reading
